STR-Z3

HIGH-DENSITY STREAMING AUDIO SOLUTION

The STR-Z3™ delivers a high-density, hardware-based solution for linking communication systems that use streaming or virtual audio types. Available with 12, 24, or 36 resources, the STR-Z3 can link audio from communication systems like analog or digital P25 radio or consoles using DFSI, a growing list of commonly used PoC services, SIP devices, other JPS systems, RoIP devices, and more.

In addition to its own standalone capabilities, the STR-Z3 also includes built-in JPS Unity. This means that the STR-Z3 can quickly and efficiently join alongside other STR-Z3s and RSP-Z2s in a wide-area, distributed interoperability system managed by a Z-Series Controller.

STR-Z3

Z-Series Interoperability Value

Like all members of the Z-Series family of interoperability products, the STR-Z3 benefits from easy-to-use, dynamic control from the web-based interface. Simply log in using any standards-compliant browser (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, etc.). The software supports multiple user logins – each with their own Visibility, Groups, Favorites, and other Preferences – and different user types to help you ensure the security and operation of your system.

The standard STR-Z3 ships with 12 resources, any of which can be configured for JPS RoIP+®, JPS Bridge, JPS RoIP, MCC Console, RTP, SIP, DFSI (requires license), ESChat, JPS VIA, Mindshare, TangoTango, TASSTA, Teleproject Respondr, and Zello – and the list of PoCs is growing. Additional resources can be licensed at any time, bringing the total to 24 or 36 resources per STR-Z3.

With so many resources available, the STR-Z3 is highly capable as a standalone device. In the user interface, drag and drop resources into and out of nets to create and break patches between systems. For one-way audio monitoring or broadcasting / announcements, there are dedicated Monitor Groups and Broadcast Groups. Operators can use pre-set actions like playing stored audio or injecting DTMF or EIA tones straight from the user interface. Like the RSP-Z2, the STR-Z3 is not limited to standalone operation and can easily join a JPS Unity system managed by a Z-Series Controller.

Features for Modern Communications

Like all Z-Series products, the STR-Z3 includes JPS RoIP+®, which provides AES-128 encryption on JPS RoIP+ resources and common tunnels, unless restricted by export control. The RoIP+ protocol delivers high-quality audio and metadata like Talker Id and generally offers more capabilities than JPS RoIP or JPS Bridge when connecting to other Z-Series devices and not using Unity.

While the standard STR-Z3 ships with 12 resources, that same device can easily be expanded with a license to bring the total resource number to either 24 or 26 – no additional hardware required. Simply apply the license using the software.

Other license options include ChaCha20 and AES-256 encryption as well as either a 3-resource or a 12-resource DFSI license. (Note: DFSI requires an additional dongle for audio decoding needed for many installations. Dongle not included. Limit of 1 DFSI dongle and 1 DFSI license per STR-Z3 device/chassis.)

The STR-Z3 in the Z-Series Family

The Z-Series has been growing in capability, functionality, and usability since its initial release many years ago. Recent additions include user-specific Preferences and Visibility, Link Profiles to easily create and/or disband nets, and Rapid Recall to replay recently received audio from the user’s web browser or from any resource. All of this and more is standard on all Z-Series devices, including the STR-Z3.

Like the RSP-Z2, the STR-Z3 integrates easily into a Unity wide-area interoperability system managed by a Z-Series Controller. With just a few clicks, all the resources on an STR-Z3 can be added to and managed directly from the Z-Series Controller’s user interface. Subsequently, the Z-Series Controller operator can patch STR-Z3 resources with resources from other STR-Z3s, RSP-Z2s, and even its own Z-Series Controller resources. Unity makes it easy to create a large, distributed interoperability system.

In summary, while similar in concept and size to the RSP-Z2, the STR-Z3 carries the gateway concept further by offering a higher-density, all-streaming-resource solution. In other words, no radio ports but many more resources – all in the same size device.
